Dal makhani without rajma recipe

Dal makhani is most Indian favourite dish among other recipes. I tried at home without rajma and it turned out delicious tasty and nutritious too. It is creamy buttery hence kids love to eat without hesitation.

Ingredients

For pressure cook
  • 3/4 cup whole black dal
  • 1 tsp salt
  • water
Masala for dal
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1/2 medium chopped onion
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree or 1 chopped tomato
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp butter
  • milk cream
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
Method
  1. Wash the dal and soak for overnight or 2-hour prior cooking.
  2. Pressure cook dal with salt and water, remove 5 to 6 whistle.
  3. After pressure cook dal, mash it with masher so that dal can easily mix with masala.
  4. Heat a Kadai add 1 tsp ghee and 1 tsp butter when the butter melts completely add cumin seeds, chopped onion and ginger garlic paste, fry till raw smell goes off
  5. Add red chilli powder, and tomato/tomato puree cook till the masala gets separated from the oil
  6. Add cooked mashed dal and garam masala in it. 
  7. When dal get shimmering add slowly milk cream in it.
  8. Cook on low flame for 15 to 20 min, 
  9. Add 1 tsp butter in it. cook dal till it becomes creamy.
  10. Serve hot with nan or paratha.
